Weißenburg (Germany) and vicinity

Weißenburg - Church of the Holy Cross

The catcholic Church of the Holy Cross is a modern building, dating from 1962-1964. It is part of an architecturally consistent ensemble containing, among others, a library, a catcholic kindergarten and a bell tower. Characteristic in this ensemble are the quarrystones and the rounded corners (only parly done in the model). For the comming years a new organ is planned.

Ellingen - Deutschorden residence (simplyfied)

The residence of Ellingen was built in the time between 1708 an 1760, replacing several older buildings. It was home of the "Ballei Franken" of the "Deutscher Orden". After the von Wrede family sold the castle to the state of Bavaria in 1939, is is maintained by the "Bayerische Schlösserverwaltung". Behind the castle a small, yet beautiful park is located, which contains several old trees and (in spring) bluebells. Around the castle there are horse stables and a brewery. [This is a simplyfied version of the model.]

Weißenburg - Rosenbad neighbourhood

The gray-white half-timbered building at the corner of Rosenbühl/Auf der Wied originates from the 15th century. Its name "Rosenbad" (rose bath) harkens back to its designation as a bath house at this time. Today it is - like its neighbours - a residential building. Model contains the buildings Rosenbühl 2, 4 and 6. In reality the terrain is substantially sloped.

Weißenburg - Wildbadstraße 12/14

The building at the cornder of "Wildbadstraße 14"/"Auf der Wied" stems from around 1706/1707. It is one of the largest half-timbered buildings in the historical city core. In former times it served as coffee bar and tavern, later as a butchery. Today in 2007 it is used (among others) as a surgery. The model also contains the adjacent house Wildbadstraße 12 for the sake of completeness.
